Cain. Cain was the first murderer and his punishment was to be an outcast. He did not question the punishment, but he did question its severity. The fact that he understood about punishment shows that he understood law and the consequences of breaking God’s laws.
Enoch. The Bible says, |
 |
And Enoch walked with God. Genesis 5:24
|
You can only walk with someone if you share the same principles. Enoch walked with God for 300 years of his life and then was taken to heaven without dying. The implication is that he was in full harmony with God and God’s plan for his life.
Noah. This is how the Bible describes him. |
 |
Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9
And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark, for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Genesis 7:1 |
| Noah stands in strong contrast to those of his own age. Here is how they are described, |
|
And God saw that the wickedness of man was very great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. Genesis 6:5,11
All flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. Genesis 6:12.
|
Surrounded by this evil Noah walked with God. He did right. To walk
with God means to do what God has asked. Noah was a Sabbath keeper. There were no children of Israel at that time and no religion with a name. They kept the pattern that God had set for human beings, for Noah like Enoch walked with God.
To be clear, what does the Bible say righteousness is? |
For all thy commandments are righteousness. Ps 119:172.
|
 |
To keep the commandments is to be righteous. It means to obey them, but it also means to value them, to treasure them. It is not a mechanistic obedience, but from a loving heart, a heart in companionship with God.
Noah also knew of the days of the week. When he was in the ark, he sent out a raven, then a dove, but it found nowhere to rest while the earth was covered with water. |
