The Sabbath Question re-emerges

WHERE DOES THE SEVEN-DAY WEEK COME FROM?

There is nothing in astronomical reckoning that gives us the week of seven days, as we know it.
  • The time it takes for the earth to spin on its axis gives us the 24-hour day.
  • The moon gives us lunar months of about 28 days.
  • The time the earth takes to go around the sun gives us a year.

There is no such reckoning for the 7-day week.

The week is found in all countries of the world, whether Christian or otherwise. It is a universal method of calculating time. It is something in common for all nations, whether a rich nation, or a poorer developing nation. The seven-day week remains constant throughout good times and bad.

The only reason we have the week is because of the Creation. It was originated by God and is a worldwide witness to His rulership. Even an atheist knows when the weekend comes. Although it is not acknowledged today as being from God, one day the entire world will be compelled to acknowledge the God of heaven as the maker of all we see. ‘That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.’ Philippians 2:10

At the end of the seven-day week, there is the Sabbath, a day of rest and holiness, placed there by God for our benefit. The commandments of God are not for a burden to us but for our well-being.
‘O that there were such an heart in them that they would fear Me and keep all My commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever.’ Deuteronomy 5:29
